How do we define a semi-conductor? It's usually produced of materials with special electrical resistance (it is between that of a conductor and a non-conductor). The resistance of semi-conductors also depends on changes in temperature or added dashes.

Semi-conductor substance is used to produce diodes which serve for keeping the flow of electrical current simply in one direction. There is a detached class of matters that is named semiconductors. Scientists got known about such materials in the end of the 19th century, but only in the 20th century scientists managed to obtain more knowledge about them. The first successful research was carried out by the Russian physicists in 1923. They proved that semiconductors may be used to generate fluctuations. There was no possibility to develop some sophisticated devices as diodes. Just in the beginning of the 50's with the invention of transistors in 1949 the broad use of crystal detectors began. Since then a lot of persons all over the world become interested in such kind of substance as semiconductors.

Induced emission is actually a very interesting characteristic of semiconductors that has been researched for several tens of years. It led to the appearing of semiconductor laser device based on utilizing of p - n barriers and then on heterojunction.
